National Women’s Health Week is May 13-19. This week long health observance is coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health (OWH). National Women’s Health Week empowers women to make their health a top priority. With the theme “It’s Your Time,” the nationwide initiative encourages women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life. Important steps include:

*Getting at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of monderate physical activity, 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous physical activity or a combination of both each week

*Visiting a health care professional to receive regular check-ups and preventative screenings

*Avoiding risky behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seat belt

*Paying attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress

*Eating a nutritious diet

Town & Country Players Summer Theater Audtions

Blue Earth Town & Country Players announce AUDITIONS for their 36th summer musical production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Auditions will take place May 19th and 20th from 1-3 pm at the Blue Earth Area High School Choir Room; enter through door W.

There are signing parts for men and women; children’s chorus: grades 4-7 with unchanged voices.

Production dates for the play are July 12-15 in conjunction with Blue Earth Giant Days events. Questions regarding auditions can be answered by Director Nancy Steinke 526-7265.

52nd Annual Lions Athletic Banquet

The 52nd Annual Athletic Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 19th, 2012 at the Blue Earth Area High School at 6:30 pm.

The speaker will be Sarah Schonrock Southworth a 1995 graduate of Blue Earth Area High School. She lettered in cross country, basketball and softball and was named the Outstanding Female Athlete. She also participated in basketball while in college.

Sarah graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1995 with a major in Financial Economics. She is married to Bob Southworth and has two daughters, Annika age 5, and Kylie age 3. They reside in St. Peter, MN.

Tickets may be purchased from any Lions Club member or at the door. The price is $9. All Lions members are asked to be at the high school by 5:30 pm on Sturday to help with setting up, serving and remain after the banquet to help with clean up.

2012 Letter Carriers Food Drive

On May 12th, the Blue Earth Letter Carriers will have their annual food drive. Participating carriers will deliver post cards a few days prior to the actual drive. Anyone not receiving a post card can still bring food donations to the Blue Earth Post Office by 10:30 am. Those who received post cards are asked to have their donation by their mail boxes by 9 am. You may also bring food to the Post Office prior to Saturday if that is more convenient for you. All food donated will be given to the local food bank for distribution to needy families in our area.

City Clean Up

Blue Earth City Clean Up will be this Saturday, May 5th from 9-noon at the Faribault County Fairgrounds (please use the north entrance). Items being collected include fluorescent lamps and ballasts, batteries, household hazardous waste, used oil, electronics and appliances. Tires are also being collected, but should be dropped off at Bauer Built Tire instead of the fairgrounds. The burn site will be open Saturday from 10 a – 4 p.

6th Annual Firemans Breakfast

The 6th Annual Blue Earth Fire Department Firemans Breakfast will take place on Sunday, May 6 from 9 a – 1 p at the Blue Earth Fire Station. Cost is $6. The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, juice and coffee. Fire truck rides will be given along with fun for all ages!

Carlsons Pillow Cleaning Service

The Blue Earth Kiwanis Club invites everyone to Carlson’s Pillow Cleaning- custom pillow cleaning for feather & down pillows May 1 and 2. Pillows can be dropped off Tuesday, May 1 from 6-8 pm at Hamilton Hall, 7th St entrance in Blue Earth. Full service – same day will take place Wednesday, May 2 from 7:30 a – 3:30 p.

Pillows are cleaned, deoderized, sanitized, fluffed and given a new cover/ticking! Custom made NEW pillows and comforters will also be available for sale.

Proceeds go to the Blue Earth Kiwanis Club for community projects.

Relay for Life Fundrasier

Bud’s Angels Relay for Life will be hosting a Fundrasier featuring a 3 meat buffet Saturday, April 28th from 4:30-8 pm at Hamilton Hall in Blue Earth. Also on the menu for the night will be wild rice, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, corn, dinner roll, salad bar, dessert and a beverage.

Tickets are available at Jubas and are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. All proceeds go to the Relay for Life Cancer Walk.
