Quilters Meeting

The Blue Earth Valley Quilters will hold the seventh meeting of the 2016-2017 year this Monday, May 15, 2017, at 7:00 pm in the Blue Earth Area High School Media Center. Please enter through Door C on the west side of the building. Please note the change in location for this month – the orchestra will be warming up for their concert in our regular meeting room. After introductions, the meeting will begin with show-and-tell, which is always inspiring!

The Gypsy Wife Quilt mini-group is finishing up on their project. The next mini-group project will likely be the Navajo Code Talkers quilt. Signup for the Art Institute of Chicago Challenge will continue. These projects are to be completed for the EXPO in August – all members are encouraged to participate. Booklets for the Minnesota Quilters State Show in Duluth are available at Michele’s in downtown Blue Earth. There will also be discussion about the 2017 Faribault County Fair.

Jan Shaffer will present instructions for making a sewing caddy from an old coffee can and fabric. This can be very handy when attending classes or retreats. This will be followed by a video tour of the National Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky, plus some highlights of the Paducah area that might especially interest quilters. There is a bus trip being planned for the 2018 Paducah Quilt Show in late April – this will provide a taste of what is in store.

The Blue Earth Valley Quilters meet on the third Monday of each month (no meeting in July or December) under the umbrella of Blue Earth Area Community Education. Each meeting consists of a brief welcome and introductions, a quilt related demonstration, show and tell, a question and answer session and a few minutes to talk with other quilters. Those who are interested may stay after the meeting for the Block-of-the-Month project. The Blue Earth Valley Quilters has been referred to as a guild without all the rules, a quilt discussion group, or a mini-class in quilting – it is open to everyone who enjoys quilts or quilting – quilters of all skill levels are always welcome!
