From “Blue” to “Orange Earth”

As part of “Unity Day” – a special day to support bullying prevention, on Wednesday, October 9th Blue Earth will be renamed Orange Earth. Our beloved Jolly Green Giant will also be getting a make over with the addition of an orange toga. It is all part of an anti-bullying campaign that is called “Raise a Giant” sponsored by Green Giant Company and the Minneapolis based PACER group. Since the official color of Unity Day is orange, individuals across the country are being asked to wear orange to send a message of hope to end bullying in all communities and to recognize those that have been bullied.

10 am on Wednesday morning will be the official unveiling of the Orange Giant. Everyone is invited to attend this event, which is being held at Giant Park in Blue Earth and is being filmed to be shown as part of a national anti-bullying campaign. A part of Wednesday’s program will include Blue Earth Mayor Rick Scholtes reading his proclamation of turning the town’s name to Orange Earth. Other speakers include General Mills integrated marketing director Marissa Wildermuth and the director of PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center Julie Hertzog.
