Blue Earth Valley Quilters Meeting

Blue Earth Valley Quilters will hold the seventh meeting of the 2017-2018 year this Monday, April 16, 2018, at 7:00 pm in the Blue Earth Area High School Choir Room. Please enter through Door V on the south side of the building. After introductions, the meeting will begin with show-and-tell, always an inspiring part of the meeting!

The Navajo Code Talkers Quilt quilt-along group is finishing work on the project – members are assembling the blocks into a quilt and finishing up the quilting! Final meetings fro the group are scheduled for April 26 and 30. Signup for the Faribault County Mini-quilt Challenge will continue. These projects are to be completed for the EXPO in August. Challenge packets for the 2018 EXPO will be available – all in watermelon colors. Members on the Paducah Quilt Show trip will be departing on Thursday of next week.

Julie Post will remind members about the second Block Lotto slated for the May meeting. Brainstorming for the Faribault County Fair (July 25-28, 2018) and 35th Annual Upper Midwest Woodcarvers and Quilt EXPO (August 10-12, 2018) will continue – the fair book is at the printer.

The second “Woolies” retreat (for those working on wool or hand sewing projects) will also take place on Monday, April 16 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in the community room of the Patton Funeral home in Blue Earth. Participants are requested to bring projects, show-and-tell and lunch. An optional handmade needlebook exchange is also planned . This does not have to be wool! Please wrap your needlebook. Those interested should RSVP to Linda Bakken by Saturday, April 14.

This will be followed by the semiannual Trash to Cash event, where the quilters bring quilt related supplies that they no longer use that are available to the other quilters. All proceeds go towards the 2018 EXPO next August 10-11-12. Chairperson Linda Bakken comments that “This month’s event will be great!”

The Blue Earth Valley Quilters meet on the third Monday of each month (no meeting in July or December) under the umbrella of Blue Earth Area Community Education. Each meeting consists of a brief welcome and introductions, a quilt related demonstration, show and tell, a question and answer session and a few minutes to talk with other quilters. Those who are interested may stay after the meeting for the Block-of-the-Month project. The Blue Earth Valley Quilters has been referred to as a guild without all the rules, a quilt discussion group, or a mini-class in quilting – it is open to everyone who enjoys quilts or quilting – quilters of all skill levels are always welcome!
